REDUCE
In the introductory chapter, Maeda explains what to do when everything that can be removed has already been removed. He refers to this method as SHE: Shrink, Hide, Embody. They all deal with altering the consumer's perception of a product. They seem like smart and reliable methods to remember. It's something I've seen practiced all of the time, but never stopped to fully realize or categorize them. Maeda talks about them mostly in terms of product design, but they can easily be applied to all forms of media. They can be used in application design in the form of smaller buttons, drop down menus, and attention to details.
ORGANIZATION
‘Organization’ something all designers are prone to in their everyday life, most of us hate cluttered windows and apps, we all prefer the simple side of things, to what we find elegant. Law 2 was simply him explaining how make a group and that too many groups defeats a purpose of a group. He relates clutter to the iPod, generation 1 was simple, generation 2 was more complex, and then generation 3 went back to simple. Similar to our design tendencies, we start out simple, try to add some things then it’s complex and cluttered, and we finally revert back to simple. Things to take away: Simple > Complex > Simple.
